Lakeith Stanfield To Sexy Up THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER’S WEB

Watch out, Lisbeth Salander.

2017 was a massively successful year for Lakeith Stanfield, who parlayed his cameo in Straight Outta Compton - playing none other than Snoop Dogg - and his role on Donald Glover’s rather good FX series Atlanta into a series of high-profile gigs. The most notable were in Jordan Peele’s Get Out (where he nearly stole the whole movie with one freak-out), and also Adam Wingard's Death Note (where he most certainly walked away with that dubious endeavor).

Now, Stanfield has been cast in Sony’s The Girl in the Spider’s Web, as NSA security expert Alona Casales, who's pursuing mohawked hacker Lisbeth Salander (now played by The Crown's Claire Foy). Stanfield joins Blade Runner 2049's Sylvia Hoeks (who plays Salander’s twin sister), and The Square's Claes Bang (who plays the movie's main heavy).

A sorta-sequel to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Fede Alvarez (Don't Breathe) will helm Spider's Web from a script by Steven Knight - whose Peaky Blinders this writer just started and is all the sudden three seasons in and can't get enough of (hot English dudes killing each other in fine suits, all set to Nick Cave? Sign me up.)

Stanfield feels like one of those actors who's just on the cusp of breaking out and becoming a household name; the perfect mix of good looks and even more talent. Here's hoping the dude finds more luck in '18, and that The Girl In the Spider's Web is actually good (despite Alvarez's involvement).
