Stephen Chbosky To Make PRINCE CHARMING A Wallflower

The PERKS author/writer/director makes the jump to Disney.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is one of the best teen movies ever made - a work so truthful, real and totally Pittsburgh that it's tough not to fall totally in love with it (especially if you grew up main-lining John Hughes movies). Word on the author/writer/director Stephen Chbosky's latest - Wonder, starring Jacob Tremblay, Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson - has been getting rave reviews leading up to its release this weekend.

Now, Chbosky's been tapped by Disney to write and direct their latest live-action fairy tale, Prince Charming. Set to be a revisionist take on the character trope popularized in Disney’s own Snow White and the Seven DwarvesSleeping Beauty and Cinderella, the story takes a look at the iconic prince from the point of view of his brother, who never quite lived up to the family name.

No word on a targeted release date yet, but anyone familiar with Chbosky's particular coming of age sensibilities knows that this could be a really affecting tale if he's allowed to make it completely his own. If you've never seen (or read, for that matter) The Perks of Being a Wallflower take a moment to do both. I promise you will not be sorry.
