It’s Official: STAR WARS: EPISODE IX Will Hit Theaters In December 2019

JJ's giving us new STAR WARS for Christmas.

Earlier today, we learned that JJ Abrams had officially signed on to direct and co-write Star Wars: Episode IX, replacing the recently-jettisoned Colin Trevorrow (Book Of Henry #NeverForget). And now, hot on the heels of that announcement, we know when it's gonna get here.

Take it away, Star Wars Twitter feed:

Yes, that's right: Star Wars: Episode IX arrives on December 20th, 2019, pushed back from its original release in May of that year. Makes sense, given that all involved will need a little extra time to rework whatever had been done to the script while Trevorrow was at the helm. Sure, we've gotta wait a little longer, but you do want them to get everything just right, don't you?

Anyway, that's it. That's all we know. Star Wars: Episode IX gets here December 20th, 2019. Please plan accordingly.
